University of Witwatersrand Permanent Staff

The three permanent geophysics staff members at the University of the Witwatersrand are:

  • Dr. G.R.J. Cooper (Associate Professor), B.Sc. ( Manchester University), M.Sc. (Newcastle upon Tyne), Ph.D. (Wits). Mathematical geophysics, inverse theory, chaos theory, wavelets, image processing.
  • Dr. S. J. Webb (Lecturer), B.Sc. (SUNY, Binghamton), M.Sc. (Memorial), Ph.D. (Wits). Gravity, magnetics, applied seismology, tectonics.
  • Dr. M.Q.W. Jones (Senior Lecturer), B.Sc. (Rhodes), Ph.D. (Wits), heat flow, tectonics.

Dr. Sue Webb is the AfricaArray coordinator at Wits, and Dr. Mike Jones is in charge of student affairs, applications and teaching programmes.

Part-time Lecturers
