There are employment opportunities for students with degrees in geophysics in many areas of Africa’s natural resource sector. On both the exploration and production side of industry, geophysicists are employed by petroleum, mining, and geothermal companies, and consulting firms specializing in water development and environmental remediation. In the mining industry, geophysicists are also employed in mine safety programmes. Within government agencies, geophysicists are employed by ministries administering national programmes focused on energy, mining and water. In universities, geophysicists are hired as faculty within geology and physics departments.
